We as Christians cannot claim to serve the God of the Bible without using his guidelines for serving him. God’s guidelines are written in his word – Genesis to Revelations. The definition of a Christian is someone who believes and follows after Christ (1 John 2:6). Christ was sinless, yet died for our past sins by humbling himself and following the commandments of the Father (Hebrews 5:8-10). If we love Jesus, like Christians ought to, then we must also humble ourselves and keep His holy commandments (John 14:15). If we do not do these things then we do not love Christ (1 John 2:3). We are to learn how to keep God’s commandments by studying, understanding, and obeying his word.
Serving God the way he set forth assures him that we respect, honor, and LOVE him. By doing things His way, we will get rewarded with peace of mind and ultimately eternal life (Proverbs 3). Once we understand the importance of this, it is best to ALWAYS ask ourselves – Am I worshiping God the way he intended to be worshiped? The only way to know without a shadow of a doubt that we are worshiping God correctly is to make sure that our thoughts, actions, and beliefs line up with what is written in the Old and New Testaments. If we are living in ignorance then we are living in sin! However, God will teach us how to live according to knowledge if we follow his guidelines!
So what does the Bible say concerning Knowledge and how to obtain the necessary knowledge needed for salvation?
God is the God of Knowledge:
1 Samuel 2:3
King James Version (KJV)
3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for theLord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.
The fear of God is the beginning of Knowledge:
Proverbs 1:7
King James Version (KJV)
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
We are destroyed for a lack of knowledge:
Hosea 4:1,6
King James Version (KJV)
1 Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel: for the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
If we do not know and follow the God of the Bible then we are unrighteous:
Romans 1:28-29
King James Version (KJV)
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
The Knowledge of God that mankind needs for eternal salvation will be taught to us by God’s chosen priests, Israel:
John 4:22
King James Version (KJV)
22 Ye worship ye KNOW NOT what: we KNOW what WE WORSHIP: for SALVATION is of the JEWS.
Romans 10
King James Version (KJV)
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a PREACHER?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
Acts 8:30-32
King James Version (KJV)
30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
General guidelines for obtaining knowledge:
Isaiah 28:9-10
King James Version (KJV)
9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
2 Timothy 2:15
King James Version (KJV)
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
King James Version (KJV)
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
2 Peter 1:10
King James Version (KJV)
10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
TEST YOURSELF!
Put your understanding to the test! If you are following these guidelines and obeying God according to his word then you are in good standing.
